Mountains for Fell Walking + Climbing (5see above for full range)

Skiddaw  : (3053ft / 931m) - a good introduction to "climbing a mountain" It is an easy but steep, wide path up the main route. Stout Walking Boots rqd. Fantastic views off the top.  Approx. 3 hours up and down.

Helvellyn and Blencathra
are both popular choices by Visiting Walkers/Climbers.

Gentler Fell Walking -
There is a wide Bridlepath winding it's way up
Latrigg Fell (just over 1000ft / 367m) It's an easy 3/4 hour or less to the top - fantastic panoramic views over Keswick > Borrowdale (left) : Bassenthwaite Lake  (right). This path brings you to the base of Skiddaw - so you can continue on up or come back down via the Gale road into Applethwaite village.
Catbells (445m) - fantastic views across Derwentwater Lake, esp. from Catbells Ridge which has been used in numerous films inc. Sherlock Holmes.
(The panoramic Banner across the top of this WEbpage is taken from the road just below Catbells Ridge)

Castlehead is a small volcanic "Plug". It is easily accessible from the house -1/2hr will find you at the summit with spectacular views down Borrowdale Valley and across to Bassenthwaite.
It can been seen through the Front bedroom windows along with
Walla Crag. Both are an easy walk / with steady pulls and scrambles.

Walk Round Derwentwater
- the Lake
is 3.5miles long and stretches down into the Borrowdale Valley. Good footpaths circuit the Lake at high and low levels. There are regular Boat-landing stages en-route - so you can take the Public Launch so far - get off and walk to the next Boat landing or walk back to Keswick. (The Launches go clock-wise & anti-clockwise round the lake every 1/2 hour)  The walking route round the Lake is approx. 12miles long.
